Thanks for the intrepid folks who came to our POETRY READING with postcard giveaway on October 17th and made it lively and interesting.

The Toadstool Bookshop in Peterborough, in coordination with Peterborough Poetry Project, held an outdoor poetry reading on Saturday, October 17th at 11 a.m. at the rear of the building opposite Twelve Pine. Rachel Sturges, former NH youth poet laureate, and Bill Chatfield, founder of Peterborough Poetry Project, each read poems from their first books of poems.
Peterborough Poetry Project is proud to announce the October publication of “you, genesis,” by ConVal High School graduate Rachel Sturges. Rachel has performed dozens of readings of her own poetry and assisted young poets in a poetry writing workshop in celebration of Martin Luther King Day.  Some of her poems are published in a book with a few other young poets called “I NEED TO SEE THIS ON PAPER” that was compiled by the writing group at Avenue A Teen Center in Antrim, NH. “you, genesis” is her first book of her own poems.
Chatfield read from his new book, “Out of Darkness,” published in July. Both books are available now at Toadstool Bookshop in Peterborough. Both also are available at their Keene store. More information about the books is available at the “Books” page at the website: where a poem or two from each book may be found as well as information about other books and poetry contests by the publisher.
Thanks to the hearty New Englanders who braved the 45 degree temperature to join the poets. For those who missed the event, books are still available at the bookshop and through the publisher (see "Books" page for how to order).
FREE poem-on-picture-postcard with every book purchased. See Peterborough Poetry Project’s Instagram posts for an example of the postcard. Email us at
peterboroughpoetry (at) for more info. We will continue this offer through October for books ordered directly from us.

See "Books" page for how to order our books: "On and Off the Road: Poems of New Hampshire,"  "Out of Darkness," and "you, genesis" a new book of poems by Rachel Sturges, a former NH Youth Poet Laureate.

See "Contests" page for info on a brand new contest as of October 10th - publication and cash prizes.

Peterborough Book Fair

The rejuvenated Peterborough Book Fair and sale in 2019 was a success!   We thank the more than a dozen booksellers, the 6 local authors, Monadnock Writer's Group, poetry contest assessors, the almost 2 dozen volunteers, multiple sponsors, and the visitors for making this a lively event! Unfortunately, the advent of COVID-19 prevented a second fair in 2020.
